Livingston County Jail Roster Status
No official public Livingston County Jail roster, booking search page, or current-inmate search form was located on the official Livingston County website, the sheriff pages, the jail pages, or the county inmate-information pages. The county publishes detailed official pages for Livingston County Jail, inmate information, accounts, bail, mail, phone, video visitation, fees, and FOIA, but those pages do not provide a public roster profile for each current inmate.
That changes the search method. The first official contact is the Livingston County Jail at 150 S Highlander Way, Howell, MI 48843, phone (517) 546-2445. Sheriff Michael J. Murphy's office operates the 411-bed jail for local arrests, pretrial detainees, sentenced jail inmates, and short-term local holds. If a person has moved from the jail to state prison, the correct tool is MDOC OTIS, not the county jail. Federal and immigration custody use separate federal systems.
Note: The official jail page warns against LivingstonCoutyJail.org and says it is not an official Livingston County site for inmate information or payment.
Use Livingston County Jail Records
Because no official online roster was found, the practical Livingston County inmate lookup is an access chain rather than a single search box. Start with the jail for current custody and bond status. Move to FOIA for nonexempt booking or jail records that are not given by phone. Use MiCOURT for the formal court case after charges are filed. Use VINE for custody status alerts, and use OTIS, BOP, or ICE only when the person is outside the county jail system.
- Call Livingston County Jail at (517) 546-2445 and ask whether the person is currently lodged, released, transferred, or held on another matter.
- Use the jail address, 150 S Highlander Way, Howell, MI 48843, for in-person questions only after calling, because public counter lookup hours were not published.
- Search MiCOURT Case Search by defendant name or case number to confirm formal charges, court dates, bond, disposition, or bindover.
- File a request through the Livingston County FOIA page or the online MyCustHelp portal when booking paperwork, release information, or a prior jail record is needed.
- Check Michigan VINE for release or custody notification, especially for victims and family members who need alerts.
- Use OTIS, the BOP inmate locator, or the ICE detainee locator only for state prison, federal, or immigration detention.
No official Livingston County Sheriff mobile app with inmate lookup, warrant search, booking records, or mugshots was located. Livingston County uses LivCo Alerts and Everbridge for public-safety alerts, but those alert tools are not a jail roster app.
Livingston County Roster Fields
The official county pages did not expose a jail roster form, so the field inventory is a negative inventory. That is still useful because it prevents a false search path. Unofficial sites may show search boxes for Livingston County, but the official research located no county-run roster fields for last name, first name, booking number, custody tabs, or mugshots.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|

Livingston County Inmate Record Fields
A public Livingston County inmate profile could not be inspected because the official county site did not publish one. Records still exist inside the jail, court, and custody systems. The key is to ask the right office for the right field. Booking facts start with the jail and FOIA. Formal charges and court dates belong in MiCOURT. State prison status belongs in OTIS. Federal and immigration locations are not county jail records.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Needed for phone and FOIA inquiries, but not displayed in an official public county roster found in this research. |
| Booking Number | May be maintained by the jail, but no public county roster field was located. |
| Booking Date | Use the jail phone line or FOIA for booking timing when it is not in a court record. |
| Charges | Booking or arrest charges route to jail records; formal filed charges are checked through MiCOURT. |
| Bond | The jail can confirm bond mechanics; MiCOURT may show court-set bond and case status. |
| Housing Location | Not publicly displayed in a located county roster; verify with the jail when release, visits, or mail are involved. |
| Release Status | Use the jail phone line and VINE notifications rather than relying on an unofficial roster. |
| Mugshot or Photo | Request as a booking photo through FOIA if available; no official online county mugshot gallery was located. |
Livingston County Custody Lookup
Livingston County Jail is the local detention endpoint for ordinary county custody. It is operated by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and holds people arrested or sentenced locally, including pretrial detainees and short jail sentences. Woodland Center Correctional Facility is different. It is an MDOC state prison in Whitmore Lake for sentenced prisoners, including specialized mental-health, medical, infirmary, dialysis, and general-population work-force units.
MDOC explains OTIS as a state corrections database for prisoners, parolees, probationers, escapees, absconders, and discharged offenders within the time limits MDOC describes. OTIS does not contain county jail inmates, city lockup inmates, jail-only sentences, or people arrested but not yet sentenced. Federal and immigration systems are separate again, so a Livingston County arrest may require more than one official check.
| Custody Type | Where to Look | Important Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Pretrial or local jail sentence | Livingston County Jail phone, FOIA, VINE, and MiCOURT | No official public county roster was located. |
| Sentenced state prisoner | MDOC OTIS and the Woodland Center facility page when applicable | OTIS is not a county jail roster. |
| Federal custody | Federal BOP inmate locator | BOP custody usually begins after federal commitment, not every federal arrest. |
| Immigration detention | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | No ICE detention facility was found in Livingston County. |
Livingston County Jail Facilities
Livingston County has one primary local jail and one separate state prison facility. The Livingston County Jail is the local booking, bond, mail, phone, visitation, and release-information facility. Woodland Center Correctional Facility is physically in Livingston County, but it is run by MDOC and should be searched through OTIS.

Livingston County Booking Process
A Livingston County arrest may be made by the Sheriff's Office, city police, Michigan State Police, or another agency. The person is then transported to Livingston County Jail for booking and intake. Jail staff create booking and account records, identify the person, inventory property, and place money in the inmate trust account. The jail fee page states that a $12 booking fee is charged to inmate accounts at booking under Public Act 124 of 2003.
After booking, the next step depends on the charge and the court. Misdemeanors are handled in District Court where the offense occurred. Adult felony cases usually begin in District Court with arraignment on the complaint and a preliminary examination. If the case is bound over, the 44th Circuit Court handles it after transfer. The court side is tracked through MiCOURT, while the jail side remains a custody and records question for the jail or FOIA.
- Booking
- The jail intake record created after arrest.
- Arraignment
- The first court appearance where charges, rights, and bond can be addressed.
- Bindover
- The transfer of an adult felony case from District Court to Circuit Court after the preliminary stage.
- Detainer
- A hold or request from another agency that may block release even when one bond is paid.
